Political party heavy weights are joining the political battle field for the Jinja Municipality East race scheduled for February 9, 2012.
The race is hot with intensified door-to-door canvassing of votes, tensions, accusations and counter accusations across camps.
It is predictable the winner of this race will carry a narrow lead against others.
FDC Supreme Retired Colonel Doctor Warren Kiiza Besigye led the crowds for the nomination of his party’s candidate Paul Mwiru on January 11.
At the same nomination, incumbent Nathan Igeme Nabeta of the National Resistance Movement presented more than ten members of Parliament including the party’s vice chairman for Eastern Flight Captain Mike Mukula.
In the latest show of political might, Democratic Party President Norbert Ma, his Secretary General Mathias Nsubuga Birekerawo, DP national chairman and Jinja Mayor Baswale Mohammed Kezaala have stormed the town to boost their candidate Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro.
Addressing crowds at Napier market in Jinja early today, Mao said the time to end the NRM rule is now adding that this must start from the grassroots.
Kampala Lord Mayor Al Hajji Erias Lukwago also revealed for the first time why he quit the Kampala Central Parliamentary slot and called on the jinja people to support DP.
Dp’s Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro is battling NRM’s Igeme Nathan Nabeta,FDC’s Paul Mwiru,UPC’s Richard Osinde and independent candidate Cranimar Dhikusooka.
Mufumbiro has spoken out on the controversial Kyabazinga dispute that remains afloat since the death of Henry Waako Muloki, the last Kyabazinga of Busoga.
The issue is one of the hottest in the region’s politics.
The race has been characterized by political alliances with accusations that Mr.Kezaala, the DP national chairman was supporting NRM’s Igeme Nabeta against own candidate Alex Mufumbiro.
DEAR JEANNE
